Hello Everyone,

I have been given a unique opportunity to work in Nepal for two months this summer with the non-profit organization The Little Sisters Fund and the Ama Ghar orphanage. Over the past few years, I have discovered my passion for advocating female rights. These organizations further the education and empowerment of young women in Asia who so often do not have these opportunities. I’m asking you to join me financially in this endeavor.

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world. Girls are often viewed as a financial burden and very rarely sent to school. Instead they are frequently forced into child labor, child marriage, or into the child sex industry. The Little Sisters Fund (brochure enclosed) is a non-profit group that helps sponsor at risk Nepalese girls to receive an education. In the words of founder Trevor Patzer, “If you educate a boy, you change his life. If you educate a girl, you not only change her life, you change the life of her family for generations to come.”

I want to be part of this work but I can’t do it alone. I am asking for your assistance to raise $5,000. Half the money will fund me in this unique educational opportunity. The other half will go to a young Nepalese girl, sponsoring her education for the next 10 years and changing her life forever.

I will post a weekly blog on this page throughout my time in Nepal in order to keep you updated on everything that I am experiencing. Over the next ten years I will also do a twice-yearly update on how the little sister we have supported is progressing in her education.

Please join me in enriching the lives of women in Nepal. I encourage you to give as generously as you feel capable. Any funds I raise over the initial $5,000 will go to support additional at-risk girls through The Little Sisters Fund. No donation is too small or too large. Donations must be received by May 1st 2008. Contact me at masona6@cc.wwu.edu if you are interested in helping support me in this opportunity.

Thank you in advance for your support. This work will be a valuable part of my education and life and most importantly will change the life of a young woman and her family in Nepal for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Adelaide Mason
